  This handbook is a joint venture by the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care & Control and Equestrian Trails, Inc., Corral 36 - The Monte Nido Mountain Ridge Riders.
  
  
• A Basic Safety Guide for Beginning Horse People
  Like many activities, equestrian sport also involves some degree of risk. But, if you are well armed with a basic understanding of horses, a few hard and fast rules, and your own good sense, the risks are readily minimized.

Primary Goals

The primary goals of the Chatsworth Neigborhood Council's Equestrian Committee are to:

1. Protect and preserve Chatsworth's equestrian culture.
2. Protect and preserve existing equestrian trails, easements, and access to equestrian trails.
3. Establish a voice in public affairs, such as planning commission meetings, city council meetings, and other governmental hearings that may affect equestrian safety and trails usage.
4. Ensure that new equestrian trails are constructed as mandated by subdivision map approval, by community plan, or by proposed state, city, or federal park criteria.
5. Protect and conserve the local environment around the existing equestrian trails of the Chatsworth community.
6. Keep equestrian trails safe from dumping of hazardous waste and trash.
7. Keep riders safe from undesirable individuals who are loitering or camping in and around equestrian trails.
8. Establish a public awareness of equestrian - vehicle safety.
