Viewshed Councilman Greig Smith C/o Council District 12 Field Office 18917 Nordhoff Street, Suite 18 Northridge, CA 91324 Re: Protection for Scenic Resources West of Topanga Canyon Blvd. Dear Greig, During your successful campaign for the CD-12 office, you stated that one of your goals was to obtain protection for scenic resources for the City of Los Angeles, in areas west of Topanga Canyon Boulevard. In support of this goal, the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council voted unanimously at its January 7, 2004 meeting to request that the City pursue this protection as soon as possible. If assistance from community members would help to pass such a measure through City Council, please let us know. It may be beneficial for us to review the draft ordinance prior to its introduction to City Council so that we can provide input on the resolution to protect an area of vital interest to many community members. On a related note, the scenic viewshed to the west of Chatsworth has been impaired over the last several years by several homes built in Ventura County that overlook the Valley. Many of these homes do not blend in with the surrounding area, and there is a significant effect that is starting to occur on the scenic rock outcrops. Please consider working with Simi Valley and Ventura County to further encourage appropriate development of the areas outside the City limits, such as Lake Manor and certain easterly parts of Box Canyon, that overlook our community. We look forward to hearing of the progress to date in implementing the measure you proposed prior to your election, and we welcome any opportunity to participate in fine-tuning the legislation you draft.
