Deerlake Call-up
01/14/04

January 14, 2003

Supervisor Michael Antonovich
C/o 5th District Field Office
21949 Plummer Street
Chatsworth, CA 91311

Re: Project No. 99-239(5)

Dear Supervisor Antonovich:

Today the Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission approved the Deerlake Ranch Development at 388 homes. This project in the hills of Chatsworth will now be passed to the Board of Supervisors. In anticipation of this approval, the elected Board of the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council voted unanimously at its January 7 meeting to request that you call the project up for review. Our stakeholders ask that you use your best efforts to bring about certain additional provisions and modifications to protect the area in which we live and work.

We strongly urge that the project density be reduced by at least 80 homes in number, that the storm drain system be constructed such that residential runoff bypass Devil Canyon, that some means of relieving the additional traffic burden on Canoga Avenue during and after construction be implemented, and that a new county fire station, closer in proximity to Twin Lakes and Deerlake Ranch, be provided.

Rather than appeal the decision of the Regional Planning commission, we appeal to you, as the final arbiter, to exercise your power in favor of a safer and more appropriate development project for our valued hillsides.

Very truly yours,

Marty Woll, President

Cc: Councilman Greig Smith
Council Deputy Elaine Pfefferman
