Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council (“CNC”)?

Several years ago, Los Angeles City Charter reform led to the development of a Citywide Plan for Neighborhood Councils. Under the plan, neighborhoods can, after meeting certain requirements and being certified by the City, increase their influence with City lawmakers and departments for the purpose of improving their respective communities by creating a Neighborhood Council. Stakeholders in that council will elect a board of directors. The board will hold regular meetings, manage funding provided to the CNC, facilitate communication between the community and City lawmakers, commissions and departments, and take positions, where appropriate, on actions being considered by City decision makers. On April 29th, 2003 the CNC was certified as an Official Neighborhood Council.

Who qualifies as a CNC stakeholder?

Anyone who lives, works, owns property or boards a horse within CNC territory qualifies as a stakeholder. “Work” includes regular volunteer work for a non-profit community organization that meets regularly within CNC territory. Chatsworth community members who do not qualify as stakeholders (e.g., those living in unincorporated areas) are welcome to attend CNC meetings to find out more about what’s going on in the community.

Where are the CNC territory boundaries??

The Chatsworth Neighborhood Council boundaries are proposed as follows:

  • The Northern line shall be from the most northwesterly point of the Los Angeles City / Los Angeles County boundary at SR-118 east along said boundary to Browns Canyon, then south to SR-118, then east to Corbin Avenue.
  • The Eastern line shall be centerline of Corbin Avenue from SR-118 to Nordhoff Street.
  • The Southern line shall be the centerline of Nordhoff Street from Corbin Avenue west to its termination, thence continuing in a straight line to the Los Angeles City / Los Angeles County boundary.
  • The Western line shall be the western Los Angeles City limit from the extended centerline of Nordhoff Street north to SR-118.

How do stakeholders participate in CNC?

Stakeholders who register in accordance with CNC election procedures are entitled to run for a seat on the Board (minimum age 18 years), vote for Board members in CNC elections, and participate on CNC committees. The City’s rules do not provide for a “town hall”-type format in which all interested stakeholders vote on CNC actions or positions; such voting is restricted to Board members. Thus, it’s important for stakeholders to participate in the election process and to provide their input to the Board at its regularly scheduled meetings.

Does registering mean I have to attend a lot of meetings?

Registration as a stakeholder does not obligate you to anything. It simply entitles you to vote in CNC elections. You will find CNC meetings a great way to keep current on current local developments and issues, and you may find other like-minded stakeholders on committees that undertake activities of interest to you.

How can I find out about upcoming meetings and agendas?

Meeting announcements and agendas will be posted on this web site in advance of meeting dates. Announcements may also be found at several public posting locations in Chatsworth. CNC also maintains an Newsletter mailing list for those who would like to receive e-mail notification of upcoming meetings and other matters.

Who can I contact for more information?

You may contact a member of the Outreach Committee to learn more about CNC and to find out how you can become involved.
